Last Blog Post of the School Year :)

I am excited to say that this will be my last blog post of the school year. I am at the point where I am struggling to get everything done and handed in, as well cramming my brain with study notes. I can not wait until I have completed all of my work and exams and am officially COMPLETE with this school year. In the upcoming school year, my classmates and I will be in Grade 12, which is pretty scary. I am both excited and nervous to be wrapping up high school. With this comes freedom as well as responsibility, which I am unsure if I am prepared for yet. Not being constricted to a high school sounds nice, but the responsibility of being an adult and not in school is something I definitely do not look forward to. For years I have thought about what I am going to do after high school. I had plans of travelling, studying a range of different subjects, and other things. But the plan that I want to stick to is to complete my associate degree in Cayman at UCCI, then go abroad to the UK to complete a Bachelors degree in Law. This will take about 6/7 years, then I will be back home in residency gaining experience. I hope to have my life completely together by the time I am 28. I have worked hard for this so far, and will continue to do so during my last year of high school, as well as my college studies. I would not have been able to make it this far without Hope Academy, so for that I thank all of the teachers.

Cayman Finance Student Education and Work Experience Program

This week's blog is about a program that I applied to and was accepted in. My classmates Timothy and Vladimir were also accepted in the program and continue to go to the workshops and meetings as well.

First let me explain what the program is. The program aims to educate the participants on the local financial services industry, build relationships with key stakeholders and provide important pathways to future career opportunities. The program consists of three main components: facilitated workshops, mentor-ships and work experiences.

My friends and I are in the stage where we are completing workshops weekly as well as meeting our mentors weekly. We will begin the internships in summer. After we complete the round of workshops we will have learned all that we need to, in order to prepare us for these jobs.

So, why did I join this program?

Firstly, I enjoy spending a lot of time on extra-curricular activities such as these. I do not like having a lot of time on my hands, so programs like these is an exceptional way of filling my schedule. Not only does this give me something to do, but it allows me to gain experience and knowledge in the finance field. I get to do work experience at the end, which does come with pay. I also get to meet an abundance of important people, which will be great links in the future.

I encourage any student that meets the requirement, to join the program next year.

Below is a photo of some past kids that were apart of the program and the link to their website,

DIY Blog Review

I chose the Number 1 rated blog for DIY's; 'Pretty Handy Girl'

After searching for a blog to review, this blog continuously popped up. I figured that since this is so popular, that I would read it and review it.

The first thing that I noticed was that the design was nice and simple. I also noticed how organized the site was, it was separated into subtitles of the different kinds of DIY's. It was easy to find anything that I searched up. 'Pretty Handy Girl' had a photo of herself, as well as a description of herself so that you could see who was helping you learn these new things. The site had videos and photos, as well as descriptions of what she was doing in each video.

Her DIY's included, decorating, plumbing, electrical, recipes, etc. I enjoyed the diversity, there was something on the site for everyone. This is probably why the site is so popular, it has many different videos too choose from in all types of areas. She had many videos under each category, so that means that she posts consistently.

There is a way you can contact on her on the site, to ask questions or make suggestions, as well as social media links that you can follow her on.

The only thing that I disliked about the blog was the ads. There were ads at the top as well as along the sides, which are pretty annoying.

Pageantry

I have always loved being on stage, whether dancing, poetry, etc. Although my favorite is pageantry! I enjoy everything from dressing up, to learning stage routines. Currently, I hold the title of  'Cayman's Imperial Beauty Teen 2016' which I give up to my successor in April of this year. During my reign, I traveled abroad with my pageant sisters to Orlando last summer to the international pageant. I won 'Cover Model', and was placed on the cover of one of the international pageantry magazines. I have done everything from radio appearances to interviews on Cayman27. We've also made appearances to Pirates Week; where we stood in jeeps throughout the parade and Miss Teen where we had a moment on stage. I have had so many photo-shoots and cameras in my face the past year that I literally run from any camera I see now. I have met many different important people in both the pageant and modelling industry which have given me many opportunities. I have been training the girls for the new pageant as well as private training on the side. I enjoy participating in pageants but I also love training new girls and teaching them all that I know. I have also convinced my mom to join my pageant system and I have been working really hard with her. She has everything down-packed and I am sure that she will win the title; 'Cayman's Imperial Beauty Woman 2017'. I urge any girl struggling with confidence to join a pageant, especially one that is community service oriented.

My Experience - Youth Parliament

For the past 5 months, I have been meeting with a group of teens every Tuesday and Saturday at the Legislative Assembly. We would study past parliament meetings and make mock motions and amendments to bills, etc. This was all in preparation for what we call, 'Cayman Islands Youth Parliament.' There was maybe thirty of us, and we were split in to the two traditional groups; Government and Opposition. I was put on the Government side, as the Minister of Finance and Economic Development. After we were placed in our positions, it was time to find what we were going to debate on. The Government decided on a motion that would instill a new education system; that would provide doctorates in areas in which there were high expatriates holding these positions. The opposition proposed amendments to the child pornography bill that the Cayman Islands already has in place. We spent weeks building our arguments. People visited us, giving insight on the topics and helping us build or speeches. When the day came, we dressed in business attire and took our seats in the Legislative Assembly. We all presented our speeches to schools, parents, MLA's, the premier, etc. The event was also broadcast-ed on live television and on the radio. Even though it has been quite a stressful few weeks, balancing youth parliament, school, as well as other extra activities; I am happy that I took part in this. It has given me more confidence and experience and I have learned many things, as well as met new people. I would strongly urge anyone from the ages 13-18 to join that program! I would love to thank Ms Zena, who was the person that put in the most work with us and helped us tremendously!

Tattoos :)

Instead of a DIY, I have brought the latest tattoo trends. I have always been obsessed with body art and I have always wanted a tattoo. Before I actually got a real one, I would constantly draw on myself and make fake tattoos! These are some of the most popular tattoos of 2016 according to some tattoo artists.

'Minimalist Tattoos' - Small tattoos with just black ink, mainly put on wrists and arms. Its simple line work, mainly small shapes or messages in elegant scripts. They say that this is a common trend with supermodels and 'trendy' girls. I guess I would fall into this category due to my 'vive libremente' tattoo on my wrist.

'Watercolor Tattoos' - Colorful tattoos with little line work which makes the tattoo look painted on. They are said to be on of the most difficult tattoos but when they are done well, it is beautiful.

'Finger Tattoos' - Finger tattoos are commonly seen on people who want discreet ink. Small shapes and phrases are used, mainly with black ink. Another common color is red with the 'it girls'.

'Stick and Poke Tattoos' - This tattoos are done with one dot at a time with a sewing needle. It has evolved from something you do secretly when your underage to a big trend.

Some interesting facts about tattoos -

The word 'tattoo' traces back to the Polynesian word tatau which means 'puncture to the skin.'

Between 1961 and 1997, it was illegal to get a tattoo in New York City.

For the Ainu women in Japan, huge tattoos of big lips over their lips was a custom.

Samuel F O'Reilley patented the first tattoo machine in 1891.

Henna's (substitute for tattos) contains PPD, which the FDA has warned, may cause permanent scarring.

* To cover the neck of the bottle, you are going to make a collar by gluing the spoons ontop of each other connecting into a spiral. (CHECK PHOTO)
* Put the light cable through the bottle and put the neck on top.
* Hang your spoon lamp anywhere!
